A Brief History of Chai Tea

by |

When your pour a cup of chai tea, you’re treated to a delicious experience. A creamy blend of honey, vanilla, black tea, and exotic spices, it’s a wonderful and relaxing drink whether served hot or cold.

In addition to being a mainstay on countless menus, chai tea has an interesting history that goes far beyond your local coffee shop. In fact, it’s been around for over 5,000 years. According to legend, chai tea made its debut in the ancient courts of Siam and India, created by a king who used it as a cleansing drink with healing powers. The first chai tea, known as masala tea, was made with a range of spices, didn’t contain any tea leaves, and was actually caffeine free.

That all changed in the early 1900s, when the Indian Tea Association, owned by Britain, arrived in India, bringing with them a deep, cultural love for black tea. The locals began to combine black tea with masala chai to stretch the ingredients, since black tea was very expensive and hard to get. Soon this hybrid drink, known today as chai tea, was more popular than ever.

Now chai tea is a favorite beverage all over the world, and there are many variations on how its prepared and served. In the US, chai tea has received a lot of attention from chains like Starbucks and Teavana, as well as brands like Tazo. The combination of sweet and spicy has been embraced across America, and chai is a huge reason tea sales are slowly but surely growing. This is one of the reasons Java Estate offers a number of chai products to coffee shops and restaurants who want to put this delicious and storied drink on their menus.

If you prefer liquid concentrates, we carry Oregon Chai Tea Latte, TAZO Chai Tea Latte, Torani Chai Traditional Concentrate, and DaVinci Tea Concentrate. These convenient and delicious options are an easy way to make a great chai latte—simply add milk and serve hot or over ice. No refrigeration necessary until the package is opened! As DaVinci puts it, “make fabulous teas in a snap!”

Java Estate also carries powered chai tea latte mixes by well known and well respected brands, such as Big Train Chai Tea Latte and Cappuccine Chai Tea Latte. These powders can be easily blended to make a delicious and relaxing drink your customers will love.

Chai tea has been a staple for thousands of years. Make sure you’re serving the best with the help of Java Estate.

5 Smoothie Trends in 2016

by |

Smoothies are a great addition to any menu. Light and fresh, they’re the perfect treat on a hot summer day and a great way to get an extra serving of fruit in the winter. While smoothies have been a mainstay of coffee shops and restaurants for some time, there are a number of new trends to keep in mind. According to Technomic, smoothies are a $5 billion a year business, and in order to make sure you’re offering the latest and greatest in smoothie options to your customers.

Below are five trends currently taking the smoothie world by storm. Add them to your menus with the help of Java Estate and enjoy the sweet taste of success.

  1. Low Sugar Options

Americans are becoming more health conscious, and that means they’re paying attention to thinks like sugar content. You can offer low sugar blends, use alternative sweeteners such as agave and stevia, and serve up naturally sweet fruit like pineapple and mango for a bust of sweetness without the added sugar. We recommend Torani Real Fruit Smoothies, an all natural blend that contains zero caffeine, fat, or dairy.

  1. Millennials Love Them

Millennials (consumers between the ages of 18 and 34) see smoothies as a part of a regular diet, rather than a rare indulgence. They’re known to grab one in the morning when they’re on the go, and to replace their meals with a smoothie, provided it’s filling and loaded with nutrients. To appeal to these tastemakers, keep Big Train Shaken Powders in stock. They’re light, refreshing, and packed with beneficial antioxidants.

  1. Don’t Forget the Veggies!

Smoothies are a great way to sneak in some veggies. Green smoothies (blended with spinach and kale) are really popular, especially since the flavor of these greens can be easily overpowered with other tastier ingredients. Consumers are always interested in new twists on old favorites, so don’t be afraid to embrace other leafy greens and unorthodox vegetables, such as chard or beets. DaVinci has some easy, blender-ready smoothies—one of our favorites is their Gratifying Greens option.

  1. Build-Your-Own and Customization

People enjoy the opportunity to make their smoothie their own. Allowing a build-your-own option, or encouraging people to make substitutions and additions is a great idea. Get things started with DaVinci Gourmet Dairy Base, which is a base that easily allows you to offer your own one-of-a-kind creations.

  1. Smoothie Bowls

Many smoothie-enthusiasts are opting for bowls instead of cups. Acai bowls were the first to hop on this trends. Bowls allow more options for toppings, and they look prettier, which is a plus in the age of Instagram and Snapchat. If you want to get in on the bowl game, try DaVinci Gourmet Real Fruit Smoothies. Made with real fruit puree and non-fat yogurt, they’re smooth, creamy, and wholesome—perfect for a bowl!

No matter how you spin it, smoothies are a popular option in any coffee shop, breakfast spot, or restaurant. Thanks to Java Estates, it’s easy to make sure you’ve got what the people want. Check our full selection of smoothie products, and contact us if you need any help!
